Ghostbusters = Girl Power
The Ghostbusters reboot of the classic 80's movie was released this past weekend. Myself and so many other 80's kids lined up to see this latest instillation of the series, proton packs in hand.
It turns out the film is not a continuation of the previous 2 films, but stood alone with its own separate story. The film did pay tribute to each original character in their own way, including a bust of the late Harold Ramis in a college hallway.
The only noticeable absence of actors that are still with us was Rick Moranis, who sadly does not make an appearance.
The film stars Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon. These 4 powerhouse comedians take the film from a male dominated comedy to a new perspective with female scientists.
My favorite character, no contest, was Jillian Holtzmann played by Kate McKinnon. A brilliant engineer who is a bit nutty, and we love her for it. The comedic timing of the actresses in the film had me laughing out loud.
The movie is all about girl power but there is a male main character too, a receptionist named Kevin. He is played by none other than Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, who as it turns out is a talented comedian.
The CG in the film is brilliant, making the ghosts look scarier than ever. And we even get to revisit a few of our old friends like Slimer and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.
With a plot of friendship, science and ghost busting you can't go wrong, and the film lives up to the hype. I recommend taking your kids, friends, a date, whoever just go see this film. Let's educate another generation on "Who you gunna call?"
*Be sure to sit through all of the credits until the very, very end. You will thank me later.
